At Sober College San Diego our goal is to help our clients not only get and stay sober, but learn to live a happy and successful sober life long after they leave our care. It is with this goal in mind that we developed our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Our program gives our clients access to all of the traditional aspects of Intensive Outpatient Treatment, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, group therapy, drug testing, case management etc. as well as the added benefits of an extensive recovery community and support system we refer to as Active Recovery.
Sober College San Diego is dedicated to helping those struggling with substance abuse and addiction to rebuild their lives, by helping them succeed in life through achievement in five core areas. These are what we at Sober College San Diego refer to as the Five Core Competencies and, when balanced, ensure long terms recovery from addiction. They include:
- Sobriety = healthy lifestyle
- Life Skills = healthy relationship management
- Physical Fitness = healthy body
- Productivity = healthy purpose
- Emotional Intelligence = healthy stress management
Our expert staff have years of experience in the fields of addiction and dual-diagnosis treatment and will determine the best schedule and course of treatment for each client upon admission into our IOP program. We understand that each client is different and requires a unique, customized approach to meet their needs. In addition to our therapists their Case Manager will meet with them minimum of once per week to evaluate their progress, address any concerns and help them to ensure they are succeeding. By achieving balance in their life and staying sober, while also engaging in an active recovery community, they are given the best chance at long term recovery from substance abuse and addiction.

How the Intensive Outpatient Program at Sober College San Diego Works
Every client in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) will meet with our Clinical Director for a Clinical Intake Interview, to receive an initial assessment and begin to formulate a plan for success. Involvement of the entire team will help decide on the best individualized treatment plan to meet the client’s specific needs. Like most IOP’s Sober College San Diego offers varying levels of IOP and the number of hours that each client will participate will be determined during through this initial interview.
Each client is then assigned an individual care manager who will ensure that their treatment plan is being carried out effectively. They are also there to address any concerns the client may have. Our care managers are also able, if consent is given, to communicate with a client’s family, loved one(s) or sober living program to give updates on their progress.
At Sober College San Diego we work to address the underlying causes of addiction and help clients become confident in themselves and in their sobriety. We do this by helping them create balanced lives that involve not only sobriety and emotional well-being but physical fitness, life skills and productivity. We encourage clients to participate in some sort of physical exercise on a weekly basis. We also offer several life skills groups and help clients with any difficulties with work, school or personal relationships they may be having. We also encourage all clients to find a purpose, whether that be school or work. We are able to help clients get back on track academically with Academic Counseling and support, or help with Vocational Training options like resume building, mock interviews and more.
At Sober College San Diego Intensive Outpatient Program we help our clients cultivate a life they can be proud of and is full of community support and a feeling of personal success.
